Zo: A gambling addict?
Helen: Yes. Do you like to gamble?
Zo: Gamble – 赌博. Sorry, Helen. I don’t gamble very much. Why do you ask?
Helen: I asked because today’s word is connected to gambling.
Zo: What’s today’s word, Helen.
Helen: Today’s word is scratchcard.
Zo: Scratchcard?和谐英语论坛
Helen: Yes, scratchcard. That’s two words together. Scratch
Zo: Scratch. 抓,刮,
Helen: And card
Zo: Card. 卡片
Helen: Scratchcard.
Zo: 那 a scratchcard是什么意思呢, Helen.
Helen: Well, in Britain it’s a form of gambling. You buy a scratchcard from a newsagent or supermarket. It has a special silver outer layer which you scratch off and underneath it tells you if you have won a prize or not.
Zo: 哦,我明白了。A scratchcard 就是一张彩票,很多人都愿意时不时的买一张,刮刮看,来试试自己的运气。
Helen: Exactly.
Zo: 那如果中奖了,能得到什么呢, Helen?
Helen: Usually, you win money – anything from £1 to thousands of pounds
