No major problems have been found during audits of the use of relief funds and material for the May 12 earthquake, China's National Audit Office said here on Wednesday.
The audit covered 18 central government departments, 1,289 provincial ones and 24,618 county-level ones. Auditors also spoke with 76,709 quake survivors in five affected provinces.hxen.net
The audit was conducted from May 14 through Nov. 30.
As of Nov. 30, the central and local fiscal governments had injected 128.736 billion yuan (18.9 billion U.S. dollars) into the relief process, central and local government departments donated 64.091 billion yuan, and Communist Party of China members donated 9.73 billion yuan as "special membership fees" for the quake regions.
The audit found that the raising of the funds and material had been basically legal and orderly, the allocation timely, distribution transparent, management strict, storage safe and accounts clear.
No serious breaches of law or regulation were found, the office said, although management problems were found in a few regions and departments and 162 people involved were prosecuted.
The office would audit the reconstruction process in next period, it said.
