Robin Williams had recently completed work on four films which will be shown after his death.

He will appear as a statue of President Theodore Roosevelt that comes to life in Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb.

The third installment of the Night at the Museum films reunited him with star Ben Stiller and finished shooting in May.

It will be in cinemas the week before Christmas.

During the festive season audiences will also see Williams in Merry Friggin' Christmas, a comedy about a man spending the holiday season with his estranged family.

He will also be heard as the voice of Dennis the Dog in Absolutely Anything, in which Simon Pegg and Kate Beckinsale will appear on screen. The film is expected to be released next year.

Williams had also completed a film called Boulevard in which he plays a man who escapes a humdrum existence.

The star was also involved in a plan for a sequel to Mrs Doubtfire, his 1993 smash hit comedy in which he dressed up as a woman.

In a statement Chris Columbus, who directed Mrs Doubtfire, said: "We have lost one of our most inspired and gifted comic minds as well as one of this generation s greatest actors. To watch Robin work, was a magical and special privilege.

"His performances were unlike anything any of us had ever seen. They came from some spiritual and otherworldly place. He truly was one of the few people who deserved the title of 'genius.'

"We were friends for 21 years. Our children grew up together, he inspired us to spend our lives in San Francisco and I loved him like a brother. The world was a better place with Robin in it. And his beautiful legacy will live on forever."
