美国经典动漫人物“神奇女侠”被联合国授予“荣誉大使”称号,引发争议。数万网友在网上抗议,认为让神奇女侠担任联合国大使,向女孩和女性传达错误的信息。联合国已经宣布结束了神奇女侠的任期。神奇女侠是美国DC漫画旗下的超级英雄形象,初次登场于《全明星漫画》,是漫画史上第一位主旋律女性超级英雄。

2007年,日本外务省任命已故日本漫画大师手冢治虫的漫画形像铁臂阿童木成为日本的海外安全活动形象大使,日本外务省认为“人们对阿童木的喜爱已经超越了时代,他给予了许多人安心与安全的感觉”。
