网信办对新浪微博、百度及腾讯作出行政处罚
China's cyber watchdogs have handed down penalties to several of the country's top tech firms for failing to properly manage online content.

Notices posted by Beijing municipal cyberspace administration and Guangdong provincial cyberspace administration said the firms, Tencent, Baidu and Sina Weibo, were fined for failing to remove fake news and obscene information as well as content that "incites ethnic hatred" and "threatens social order".
根据北京市网信办、广东省网信办日前发布的通知,腾讯、百度和新浪微博因未清除虚假新闻、淫秽色情信息以及宣扬民族仇恨、危害社会秩序的内容被罚款。
Tencent and Sina Weibo received the maximum penalty.
腾讯和新浪微博受到最高金额罚款。
It is the first time the administration has levied maximum fines against tech firms under the new cyber security law introduced in June.
这是新网络安全法6月实施以来,网信部门首次对科技公司处以最高罚款。
"The internet does not operate outside of the law. The cyberspace authorities will seriously implement the new cyber security law and other regulations to increase territorial supervision and enforcement efforts regarding the internet," Guangdong provincial cyberspace administration said.
广东省网信办表示:“互联网不是法外之地。网信部门将认真落实新网络安全法等法律法规,加大属地互联网信息内容监管执法力度。”
The notices did not detail the exact sum of the penalties, but under the new cyber security law, individuals in charge of platforms and others directly involved face a maximum penalty of 100,000 yuan each.
通知并未详细说明罚款的具体数额,但根据新网络安全法,平台负责人和其他直接责任人员面临每人最高10万元的罚款。
