CRI听力：Taiwan Agriculture Products Exhibit in Mainland

High-quality fruit and other agriculture products from China's island province of Taiwan started a mainland exhibition tour on Saturday.

The first stop are Shanghai , and the exhibition will later cover five cities, including Nanjing, Guangzhou, and Dalian.

Reporter: The tour features 20 types of fruit and more than 400 other agriculture products. Different from previous such events, Taiwan fruit businessmen are not only promoting their products, but also positively seeking mainland agents.

Shen Shengfeng is a manager in the Taiwan Association of Agriculture Products. He explains why seeking agents means getting larger markets.

''There is a huge market in the mainland. We've brought Taiwan products here so that the mainland public can get easy access to these fruit and vegetables.''

More than 300 fruit sellers share this view . They have been looking for greater business opportunities, especially since 2005 when dozens of Taiwan fruit were allowed to enter mainland market with zero tariffs.

But efforts are still needed for more convenient logistics service.

Lin Zhihong, director of a trade company in Shanghai, calls for Taiwan authorities to unchain the barriers to direct transport links, so as to facilitate Taiwan fruit sellers' business.

''Since 2005, a constant problem has been that the current direct transportation between mainland and Taiwan is not regular. This would cause higher delivery costs.''

The Chinese mainland has issues a series of policies that provide convenience to Taiwan farmers, such as the cross-straits agricultural cooperative experimental zone.

Taiwan agriculture practitioners say they are expecting that these measures, as well as direct transport links, could help them expand their markets and further communicate with their counterparts on the mainland.
