CRI听力:China Ensures Food Drug Safety with Technical and Financial Input

2007-08-11来源:和谐英语

China has established a monitoring system for food and drug quality to better guarantee products' safety and consumers' health.
The country will also spend 8.8 billion yuan, or about 1 billion US dollars, in building infrastructure and technology research for quality monitoring.

CRI's Xiaoyu has more.

Reporter: The monitoring system is based on strict standards of product quality. The Chinese government has set a series of such standards for various products, which are followed by professional inspecting organizations.

The Ministry of Agriculture has a quality-inspecting centre for vegetables. The center's deputy director, Liu Su, says the quality standards are helpful to their work.

''The standards give us a technical support for inspecting agriculture products' quality. We can see very high eligible ratio of vegetables in the first half of the year, and I believe that Chinese vegetable quality is on a very high level.''

For drug safety, related departments are continuing their tight supervision on enterprises, especially those who produce biological drugs.

Guo Qingwu, with the country's top food and drug quality watchdog, says they have sent supervisors to those enterprises, in order to strengthen monitoring at the very beginning of production.

''We have sent observers to 65 enterprises in 24 regions. So far the situation is even better than our expectation. The products are very good to a high quality.''

In addition, the country will make a huge investment to improve its monitoring infrastructure and technology, expecting to be in the world's leading position in three to five years.
