CRI听力:Should Beida Recruit More Recommended Students?

2007-08-13来源:和谐英语

Peking University, also called Beida, has recently released its recruitment plan for postgraduates, and it says that more recommended students will be enrolled this year.

As a result, less prospective postgraduates will be able to enter Peking University by taking the entrance exams.

Some students have expressed their dissatisfaction with this plan.

China Daily quotes a student from the Capital Medical University as saying that the policy is very unfair. Although Peking University will enroll 4,000 postgraduates this year, only half of them will be selected according to their performances on the entrance exam.

The student suggests that all prospective postgraduates at Peking University should compete in the entrance exam.

But Peking University has its reasons to recruit more students through recommendation.

From their past experiences, supervisors of postgraduates have found that recommended students "have better academic performances and tend to be more devoted to their studies".

A professor from the university says that some prospective postgraduates are only good at taking exams rather than doing well at their academic studies.

The professor does not consider the recruitment policy as unfair because the more important goals for postgraduate education are guaranteeing high teaching quality and selecting qualified talents.
