CRI听力:Nationwide Campaign Launched Against Poor Product Quality

2007-08-27来源:和谐英语

The Chinese government has started a four-month nationwide campaign to improve the quality of goods and food safety.

The campaign is also described as a "special battle" to ensure people's health and interests, and to maintain the good image of Chinese products.

The country's quality watchdog chief expresses his confidence that the campaign will achieve its goals.

Our reporter Dan Dan has the story.

Reporter:

The campaign, which will run to the end of the year, targets farm produce, processed food, the catering sector, drugs, pork, imported and exported goods and products with close links to human safety and health.

Li Changjiang, head of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, unveils the tasks of the campaign.

"The campaign will forcefully crack down on counterfeit producers and sellers. It will ban false advertising, require all food producers to be certified and step up inspections of food, drugs and agricultural products."

Among the 20 detailed goals set, there are 12 "100 percents".

For instance, 100 percent of food producers are required to be licensed, while 100 percent of agricultural product wholesale markets in cities will be monitored, and 100 percent of the suppliers of raw materials for exported products will be inspected.

Li Changjiang says these goals reflect the country's determination to improve quality.

"I believe that after this campaign, we can give a satisfactory answer to all the Chinese citizens concerning the food safety issue they have cared and worried about."

Already, inspection vehicles equipped with quality monitoring devices have been driven into cities across the country.

Mainly stopping in front of supermarkets or groceries, these vehicles provide local residents with free safety check-ups for the products they've purchased.

"On this car, we have chemicals including formaldehyde, carbinol, sulfur dioxide and agricultural chemical residue. We also have a soil quality determination device. Therefore, we can identify whether or not a product is safe to use within a very short period of time."

It's said that farmers will be the majority to benefit from such free safety check-ups.
