CRI听力:China Launches Nationwide Car-Free Day
Saturday was the World's No Car Day.
In China, people marked the day in more than 100 cities in an effort to promote environmental health and ease congestion on urban roads.
Residents of these cities were urged to take public transport, ride bikes or walk instead of using their cars across the country from 7:00a.m to 7:00p.m.
In the northeastern city of Shenyang, a number of brides and grooms have even chosen to walk instead of using cars on their wedding day.
Li Moqiao is one of them.
"We think walking is really good. It saves money and energy and it's very significant because it's very good for the environment, and it's romantic as well."
Officials say "No Car Day" will reduce emissions by 3,000 tons and save 33 million liters of gasoline.
Meanwhile, a week-long campaign to get 50 percent of the nation's urban residents to use public transport instead of private cars also ended over the weekend.
