Chinese State Intellectual Property Office says China's Intellectual Property Right Protection has greatly improved in recent years.
Tian Lipu, commissioner of the office, says the number of patent applications from foreign enterprises has jumped by an annual rate of 10 percent in the past five years.
"Many enterprises from developed countries, especially multinational enterprises benefit a lot through the enhancement of the Intellectual Property Right Protection in China."
Nearly 2 million patent applications were filed between 2002 and 2006. This exceeds the total figure in the earlier years, from 1985, when the first patent application was received, to 2001.
The Chinese total of patent applications was the world's third largest last year, behind Japan and the United States. Nearly 60 percent of the applications are domestic.
