CRI听力:Driving School Should Not Be the Only Way to Obtain a Driver's License
In most cities of China, it is mandatory to go to a driving school before one can take the driver's license test. This situation might change as a court in the southern city of Shenzhen recently ruled in favor of an individual who challenged the practice.
The Beijing News says the public has long been questioning the legality of the procedure for one to obtain a driver's license. Under existing rules, even with proper driving skills, those who do not have a license must spend thousands of yuan going through lengthy process at a driving school before applying for a license.
The paper says getting professional training at a driving school makes one a better driver, but that doesn't make it the only way to obtain a driver's license. People must have more choices.
Another article on the Nanfang Metropolitan News points to the fact that many driving schools are run by the departments that issue driver's licenses. The case in Shenzhen sends a strong message that the deal between power and money must be stopped so as to return justice to the society.
