Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi said the third China-U.S. Strategic Economic Dialogue was a "complete success."

Wu Yi spoke following the conclusion of the closed-door meeting, citing progress on issues pertaining to food safety, environmental protection and globalization.

"Both China and the United States have gone beyond a single focus on short-term, hot economic and trade issues, and instead have engaged in a comprehensive reflection of the future development of Sino-U.S. economic and trade relations from a strategic perspective."

U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, who co-chaired the talks with Wu Yi, said "the quality of discussions has improved."
He said both sides have engaged in substantive, robust, and engaging dialogue on a range of issues important to both countries.

Officials made deals regarding food safety and product quality, balanced growth, environment and energy, and investment.
Among the agreements, China has promised to allow qualified foreign investment companies, including banks, to issue yuan-denominated stocks; qualified listed companies to issue yuan-denominated corporate bonds; and qualified incorporated foreign banks to issue yuan-denominated financial bonds.

The U.S. government pledged to remain committed to applying national treatment to Chinese banks, broker-dealers and investment advisers.

The fourth SED is scheduled to convene in Washington, D.C. in June next year.
