2008-01-07来源:和谐英语

Sports venues for the Beijing Olympic Games are to use specialized ventilation systems which will be able to control wind speed as well as temperature, with the aim of providing a more comfortable environment for both athletes and spectators.

The exterior walls of a number of venues will be equipped with devices designed to mitigate the effects of wind and maintain lower temperatures. Meanwhile, a number of stadiums have installed independent air-conditioning systems, making conditions more comfortable for athletes and fans alike.

The stadium in the Beijing University of Technology, where the Badminton contests will be held, has installed a special ventilation system tailored to avoid affecting the players.

Zhang Ailin, is deputy president of the university.

''Regular stadiums often use strong ventilation, which is not suitable for Badminton. So we installed more than nine thousand separate ventilators under the viewers' seats, which won't affect the competitions.''

Certain venues for the Badminton and Table Tennis competitions are also equipped with double doors to maintain stable air flow within the buildings.
