CRI听力: Zhen Jie and Yan Zi Sails into the Second Round of Women's Doubles

2008-01-19来源:和谐英语

From the an-nals of history, dating back to...oh, about yesterday. So, needless to say, but I'll say it anyways, a lot of research has gone on. The great depths of the sporting world have been trolled and by that I mean the headlines have been perused and the most relevant information to our market has been extracted. And this thrilling and magical process was done in order to provide you with the sports on china drive.
You know I am getting lazy when I just describe what I do to make the cast in the prelude. That's one step away from me reading about the fact that I am reading in the prelude. Let's hope it never comes to that.

As the Australian Open entered into its fourth day on Thursday, the Chinese pair of Zhen Jie and Yan Zi eased past their opponents and sailed into the second round of women's doubles. Meanwhile, Li Na won her second round in women's singles defeating Italian Maria Camerin, a tough opponent, 6-4, 6-3.
Though Li Na is now the only Chinese singles player still contending in the Australian Open, Coach Jiang Hongwei gave a big nod to the performances of the other Chinese singles players.
"We are satisfied with the play between Yan Zi and Venus Williams. We think Yan Zi improved herself with such a strong opponent. As for the match between Peng Shuai and Russian teenager Alisa Kleybanova, it was a tight match. Peng Shuai gave her full effort within the three and a half hours."
As for Zhen Jie and Yan Zi getting past the first round, Coach Jiang sees more to come.
"Since Zhen Jie resumed play following her injury, her performance has been satisfactory. The pair have played better and better, though they were separated for nearly half a year. As for the other two pairs, they still need to improve through the matches."
Jiang Hongwei said this year's Australian Open is a good test of the effects of winter training, and will aid preparations for the Beijing Olympics. Last year, Chinese players marched into the women's doubles semifinals and the third round of singles. This year, the Chinese delegation is expected to play better. But Coach Jiang admits that will be difficult.
"Both Zheng Jie and Li Na have just recovered from last year's injuries. Meanwhile, since the Olympic Games are approaching, other countries are paying more attention to this year's Australian Open, especially in doubles. The opponents are fairly strong."

And in other matches at the Open, Roger Federer stretched his unbeaten run to 16 matches at the Australian Open but his efforts were almost overshadowed by 2006 finalist Marcos Baghdatis beating Marat Safin in a five-set thriller.
Federer's young rival Novak Djokovic also put in another impressive straight sets demolition job on Thursday, belting out a 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 victory over the 70th-ranked Italy's Simone Bolelli.
Top seed Federer was described by beaten opponent Fabrice Santoro as 'coming from somewhere else' as he cruised into the third round 6-1, 6-2, 6-0 in one hour and 22 minutes.
He now has a third-round encounter with Serbian Janko Tipsarevic.
Djokovic, humped with expectations that he might be the young gun to end the Roger Federer domination of men's tennis and seeded to face the Swiss star in the semi-finals, will next play American Sam Querrey.
Baghdatis, the Cypriot 15th seed and a runner-up to Federer two years ago, began strongly against Safin but was drawn into a dogfight with the 58th-ranked Russian before prevailing, 6-4, 6-4, 2-6, 3-6, 6-2.
It sets up an enticing third round match with Australian Lleyton Hewitt, who survived a four-set struggle against lowly-ranked Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan.
Elsewhere on day four, Spanish fifth seed David Ferrer knocked out Juan Martin Del Potro with the Argentine retiring injured after losing the opening two sets, 6-3, 6-4.
Argentine 10th seed David Nalbandian wore down Australian Peter Luczak 4-6, 7-5, 6-4, 6-1 and will play Spanish 22nd seed Juan Carlos Ferrero in the third round after Ferrero downed Australian wildcard Alun Jones.
American 12th seed James Blake progressed to a third round match with Frenchman Sebastien Grosjean after a 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 over compatriot Michael Russell.

In the NBA yesterday, Andrew Bogut is finally turning into the low-post presence the Bucks desperately needed.
Bogut, the former No. 1 pick in his third season, continued his recent tear with 21 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots and Milwaukee beat cold-shooting Atlanta 87-80.
Michael Redd had 17 points and rookie Yi Jianlian scored 16 points and had nine rebounds.
And speaking of points and rebounds, I'll now rebound off the story to make this point...that's the sports on china drive.
