CRI听力: Annan Calls for End of Dispute in Kenya
Former chief of the United Nations Kofi Annan has called on Kenyan political leaders to try to find a solution to their disputes triggered by the general elections.
Annan made the remark on Saturday at a press conference in Nairobi.
"No one should take the law into his or her own hands. Allow the leaders the opportunity to resolve the issues, and as I said, including the long term issues. And we are here to help them, that was the purpose and objective of that meeting."
Annan has called for more security forces to be sent to troubled area to maintain the order. He has also suggested setting up a compensation fund to resettle the refugees and people affected by the turmoil.
He also warns that the unrest may have a negative impact on the country's economic development in 2008.
