CRI听力:Musharraf Pledged Fair Parliamentary Elections

2008-02-16来源:和谐英语

Pakistan's president Pervez Musharraf pledged on Thursday that the forthcoming parliamentary elections on February 18 would be free, fair and held on time.

He made such statement after political opponents accused him of planning to rig the vote so he could maintain his grip on power.

"Despite all rumours, insinuations and every type of apprehension, these elections will be free, fair, transparent and peaceful."

Musharraf vowed to deal sternly with anyone who tried to disrupt the electoral process, and questioned the accuracy of opinion polls that said support for his ruling party was at an all-time low.

Describing the upcoming elections as very important, Musharraf said that he was happy that all the political parties would be taking part in the elections. He however asked the political parties to show grace by accepting the election results.
