CRI听力:Annual Boao Forum Conference Opens
Chinese President Hu Jintao has reaffirmed that China would keep to the path of peaceful development, continue the opening-up strategy and be dedicated to a harmonious world. He made the remark when addressing the annual economic Boao Forum for Asia in the southern resort town in Hainan Province.More than 1,700 people, including business leaders, government officials and journalists from around the globe are present at the gathering. The theme of this year's event is "Green Asia: Moving Towards Win-win Through Changes."
Chinese President Hu Jintao delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony.
"Peaceful development is the only way leading to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation."
He said Asia remains one of the world's most dynamic regions, although it faces some challenges.
"China is willing to work with other countries in Asia to have opportunities and face challenges together, to build an Asia with peace, development, cooperation and openness."
President Hu pledged that China would promote democracy, harmony, cooperation and common progress in international relations, respect diversity of human civilizations, and endeavor to make international relations more democratic.(www.hXen.com)
He added China will play an active part in international cooperation on counter-terrorism, non-proliferation, climate change, environmental protection, and work for a more just and equitable international order.
Also at the opening ceremony, Tanzanian President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete said the forum is not only a conference for economic cooperation, but also an opportunity for dialogue in Asia on global issues.
"It is for this reason that I feel greatly honored to be here. And I hope this opportunity can continue to be availed to Africa regularly, so that we will be able to share our thoughts with you and take advantage of the business opportunities this forum provides."
Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf called for the attendees to take care of the environment, which is also one of the major focuses of this year's forum.
"Environmental issues will resume increasing gravity for the whole world and especially for Asia as the continent continues to advance economically and technologically. This poses an inescapable challenge for the present and future of our continent, demanding responses at individual and collective levels."
During the two-day event, participants will discuss public-private partnerships in the green energy sector, financial reform, climate change, the future of the Internet and the intensity of competition in the global marketplace.
Established in 2001, the Boao Forum for Asia is a pan-Asian platform for dialogue on key issues relating to Asia and the world.
