CRI听力:Sister and Brother Go for the Summit Together
Tibet Mountaineering School is the cradle of Chinese mountaineering. Many mountaineers and mountain cameramen emerge from this school. Among them, sister-and-brother mountaineer Tseren Wangmu and cameraman Tseren Tantar are likely to meet each other on the summit of Mt Qomolangma during the torch relay.
Our reporter You Yu filed this report.
Reporter:
In 2002 and 2004, Tseren Tantar and Tseren Wangmu were admitted to the Tibet Mountaineering School. Their parents found the decision difficult to accept because mountaineering is not the safest of professions.
"In the beginning, our parents didn't agree. After all, their only two children wanted to do a dangerous career together. But I insisted. I said 'I must go.' So finally, they said yes."(www.hxen.net)
Tseren Wangmu started training later than her younger brother, but she caught up quickly. In her brother's eyes, she is a tough big sister, and sometimes, he says, she is like a man.
"She is very outgoing. When she is in the mountains, the way she carries herself and the way she speaks always gives me the impression that she is like a man."
For many mountain climbers, reaching the summit of Mt. Qomolangma is the ultimate dream. Tseren Wangmu made it to the peak on her first trial on May 14, 2006, just one after her twentieth birthday.
"At that time, the principal offered an opportunity to go to Mt. Qomolangma. I took it. When I reached the mountain, I found myself in a good condition, and I adjusted to the high altitude pretty well. Then I started the assent, and soon, I climbed to the summit. "
And last year, Tseren Tantar made the climb to the top of the world.
Now, the brother and sister have a simple but amazing goal. Tseren Wangmu hopes to carry the torch to the summit while her brother, a mountain cameraman, records the moment on film.
"I hope my brother and I can both be on the summit, so he can record the picture of me holding the torch. We can see each other on the summit. Our family and relatives can see us together on the summit. I'll knock on wood if our parents and friends can see us together on the summit."
