Beijing says it will pull out all the stops to ensure uninterrupted transportation during the upcoming Olympics.

Ministry of Transport Spokesperson He Jianzhong elaborates on the plans to minimize transportation snags caused by the three million vehicles on the streets of Beijing every day.

"We will set up an Olympic Express Route. The personnel at all of the toll stations on the way to the Olympic venues have received special training on foreign languages and even gestures. In addition, barrier-free facilities will be installed on the roads to insure smooth transportation."

Beijing is gearing up to provide rapid, reliable transportation for 600,000 athletes, media professionals and spectators from around the world during the Games.

Liu Xiaoming, head of the Municipal Communication Commission, says some new bus routes have been scheduled to provide free shuttle services for the crowds.(Www.hxen.net)

"Besides the necessary adjustment and maintenance for the current public transportation network, Beijing will open 34 new bus routes connecting the Olympic competition venues."

In addition, according to the officials, 800 plus vehicles from around the country will convene in Beijing to provide volunteer services. The new evening bus routes will play a complementary role in building a round-the-clock transportation network for visitors during the Games.
