CRI听力:President Hu Thanked International Society for Quake Relief

On the sidelines of the summit , Chinese President Hu Jintao also expressed appreciation towards the international society for their help after the May 12th earthquake hit southwest China.

Our reporter Zhao Yang brings the details.

At the G-8 Summit in the Japanese island of Hokkaido, Chinese President Hu Jintao thanked all the team members for extending their helping hands to the neighboring country.

''The Japanese rescue team is the first international rescue team that came to the quake-hit region. Their excellent rescue efforts deeply impressed the Chinese people. The Japanese medical team has also done a great job. ''

After the devastating earthquake happened, Japan immediately sent a 60-member rescue team to China. They were the first batch of foreign aid personnel that arrived in the quake region of Sichuan province.

Later, a Japanese medical team with more than 20 professionals also came to China's quake-hit region.

Hu Jintao said the Chinese people will remember the help from its neighboring country, and hopes that cooperation in disaster relief work can further deepen Sino-Japanese relations.

Also on Tuesday, President Hu Jintao met with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

During the bilateral meeting, President Hu Jintao thanked India for its great support with the disaster relief work.

"We believe that with the support and assistance from the international society, including India, we will surely help fulfill the mission of helping the victims, and must be able to help the victims rebuild homes."

Hu Jintao will attend a group meeting later Tuesday with leaders from a few developing countries, including India, Brazil, South Africa and Mexico. (Www.hXen.com)

He will also attend the Major Economies Meeting on Energy Security and Climate Change scheduled on Wednesday.
