2008-08-20来源:和谐英语

100 days after the May 12 earthquake, Sichuan provincial officials say that people's everyday life has now been restored to normal. New permanent residences are also being built for survivors in the southwestern Province. CRI's Zheng Chenguang reports.

The 8.0 magnitude earthquake three months ago in Sichuan inflicted huge losses on both people's lives and property.

Now three months after the deadly earthquake, Huang Yanrong, Sichuan vice-governor says the province is recovering quickly in terms of resuming production.

"Up until August 12th, 93.4% of the major enterprises in the province have resumed production. A good momentum has been gained in agriculture. 92% of trade activities in the quake region have recovered."

Talking about the construction of new permanent residences for survivors, Huang Yanrong says they first started the process in rural areas.

"In rural areas, we will strive to complete the task of rebuilding badly-damaged houses within a one-year timeframe. We will ensure that quake victims there can settle in these economical, practical and safe new homes before the end of 2009."

Huang Yanrong also says rural families who lost their homes will build permanent new houses themselves under government supervision. Each will receive 20,000 yuan or 2,900 U.S. dollars from the government.

All permanent residences for survivors in urban areas will be completed before the end of 2010.

Many scenic spots in the province have also reopened to tourists.

"We have finished our reconstruction plan for the province's tourism industry. It'll have over 300 projects with an investment of over 80 billion yuan. The money will be mostly used to repair and rebuild facilities, such as hotels and roads."

The 8.0-magnitude quake affected Sichuan, Gansu and Shaanxi provinces, with Sichuan being the worst hit. The death toll has exceeded 69,000.

China's Ministry of Finance says, so far, the country has allocated 66.75 billion yuan or 9.71 billion U.S. dollars for the May 12 quake relief and reconstruction.
