CRI听力：President Hu Promises to Increase Farmers' Income

Chinese president Hu Jintao has paid a visit to the eastern Chinese province of Anhui, meeting with local farmers and inspecting the local dairy industry.

During his trip to Xiaogang Village in Fengyang county on Tuesday, the Chinese president said the central government will further strengthen preferential policies for the country's rural areas.

He says the government will also continue to invest in boosting agricultural infrastructure and increase farmers' incomes. (Www.hXen.com)

"We will introduce a series of effective policies and measures to actively push forward the construction of a new socialist countryside and improve the production and living conditions in rural areas."

The president also inspected two local dairy manufacturers and underscored the importance of food safety in the dairy industry.

"Food safety concerns the health of the people. We must draw lessons from the Sanlu tainted milk incident. We must strengthen management and quality control to ensure that all products in the market are up to standards."

Earlier, the Chinese president also visited rural areas in China's central Henan province, where he voiced the central government's support for rural development.

The Chinese president's visit coincides with the 30th anniversary of china's rural reform policy, which has been, since its start, benefiting millions of farmers across the country.
