CRI听力:World Leaders Vow to Tackle the Financial Crisis in a Cooperative Way

2008-10-13来源:和谐英语

Leaders of the world major economies have vowed to ease the impact of the financial crisis in a cooperative way.

United States President George W. Bush said on Friday the government's financial rescue plan was aggressive enough and big enough to work, but would take time to fully kick in.

"Many of our citizens have serious concerns about their retirement accounts, their investments, and their economic well-being. Here's what the American people need to know: that the United States government is acting; we will continue to act to resolve this crisis and restore stability to our markets."

On Friday, world stock markets continued to fall despite recent moves by the world's central banks to thaw frozen credit markets and boost investor confidence.

In the U.S., the Dow Jones industrial Average wiped off one and a half percent to around 8,450, down 18 percent, for the week.

The Nasdaq Composite added nearly a third of a percent to almost 1,650. But it was down over 15% from the week-ago close, and marked its fourth worst weekly percentage drop ever.

In Europe, Britain's FTSE 100 fell nearly 9 percent to just above 3,930, the first time it has ended below the 4,000 level in five years.

Germany's DAX gave up 7 percent to below 4,550. And France's CAC-40 dropped nearly 8 percent to less than 3,180.
