CRI听力:China Sees Rapid Development of Publishing Industry

2008-10-18来源:和谐英语

China has been listed as a guest of honor in the 2009 Frankfurt Book Fair, the largest of its kind in the world, following its same role in the 2007 Moscow Book Fair and this year's Seoul Book Fair.

Officials and insiders say this attributes to the country's fast development in its publishing industry over the last 30 years.

Yunfeng has more details.

At a recent press conference in Frankfurt, Li Dongdong, Chinese Vice Minister of General Administration of Press and Publications, said the massive change in China is linked with the country's three decades of opening up and reform.

"The fast development of China's publishing industry cannot be separated from the background of the country's opening up and reform. Marketing mechanisms have played a big role in the industry's development."

Li Dongdong said China is now the world's largest book publisher, with 250 thousand books and sales volume of 6.3 billion last year alone.

Li added that China has formed a comprehensive industrial system which can provide publishing, printing and issuing of books, papers, magazines, as well as audio and video products.

Hu Dawei is Vice President of the Shanghai Century Publishing Group.

"We can say that China's booming publishing industry goes along with its rapid economic development, and China has become one of the most active markets in the world. This may explain why Moscow, Seoul and Frankfurt have chosen China as guest of honour in their book fair."

Li said besides importing 1 billion US dollars of foreign books to satisfy domestic readers every year, China has placed a strong emphasis on copyright trade.(Www.hxen.net)

"The Chinese government has conducted greater cooperation with foreign investors. Chinese publishing enterprises need to learn overseas companies' experience in management and marketing operation. We hope the two parties can realize a win-win situation."

In addition, China has vowed to crack down on pirated material and protect intellectual property rights to create a better environment for cooperation with other countries.
