CRI听力:Chen Yunlin to Visit Taiwan Next Week
Chen Yunlin, director of the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits, will visit Taiwan next Monday to discuss cross-straits travel, food safety and economic cooperation.
Yang Yi, spokesperson of the Taiwan Affairs Office under the State Council, says that the two sides will negotiate on direct sea transportation, direct cargo flights, charter flights, the establishment of direct aviation routes and direct mail service.
Yang Yi says these links will benefit people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits.
"Charter flights are expected to facilitate journey between the two sides, reduce airline fares and the costs of aviation companies. Besides that, direct sea transportation will also save costs in the trade industry."
Yang Yi says food safety concerns, which emerged after exposure to the mainland's tainted milk incident, will also top the agenda.(WWw.hxen.net)
"We hope we can reach a consensus on this issue and sign an agreement to guarantee food security across Taiwan and the mainland."
Financial experts will also discuss cross-straits cooperation to cope with the worsening global financial crisis.
The Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits was created in 1991. And Chen Yunlin will be the first director of the association to visit Taiwan.
