CRI听力:Pakistan's earthquake death toll exceeds 300
The death toll from the recent earthquake in south-western Pakistan's Balochistan province has reportedly crossed 300.
Pakistan's state television reported on Friday that Around 40,000 people were displaced and 200 villages affected in the earthquake. And thousands of survivors are now being threatened by bitter cold and hunger.
Although local government and foreign aid groups have distributed tents, blankets and other relief goods to the affected areas, many are still waiting for help.
Doctor Naikmohammad Kakar, at a makeshift medical centre in Ziarat, said the situation is not good for children.
"Here in the earthquake area, due to the cold weather and the lack of blankets and warm clothes, these children have pneumonia and it's increasing day by day."(wWw.hxen.net)
Experts say the aftershocks, including one on Wednesday almost as strong as the quake itself, will continue for days.
Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority says 2,000 tents, 5,000 blankets and other supplies have been dispatched to the quake area, but poor road conditions have hampered delivery.
Local officials and lawmakers have repeatedly called on central government and the international community to provide more help.
