A statue of the renowned scientist, Charles Darwin, was unveiled at Cambridge University on Thursday, on the 200th anniversary of his birth.

The unveiling was carried out by Prince Philip, husband of Queen Elizabeth II, at Christ's College, where Darwin lived when he was a student at the university.(Www.hxen.net)

Darwin's great great grand-daughter, Sarah Darwin, was there to witness the event.

She said if Darwin were alive today, he would be deeply concerned about climate change.

"It's good timing I think and I'm sure if Charles Darwin were alive he'd be doing a lot for conservation today and he'd be concerned about global issues like climate change."

Darwin formulated his ground breaking theory of evolution by natural selection - which included the famous idea of "the survival of the fittest" - after visiting the Galapagos Islands.
