CRI听力： Health Minister Calls for Capacity Building in Food Safety

Chinese Health Minister Chen Zhu says the country will step up capacity building in its food safety network in accordance with the new Food Safety Law.
The minister made the remarks Friday at a panel discussion of this year's Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference session.
Chen Zhu said food safety has become the most concerning issue for the public. Health authorities should intensify the construction of a comprehensive supervisory system for food safety.(www.hxen.net)
"We have been left behind on capacity building in food safety. In order to strictly observe the Food Safety Law, we hope the central government can coordinate related departments, and increase its support in areas like decision-making, institutional construction, personnel development, capacity building and funding."
The Food Safety Law, which takes effect on June 1, will endow the health authorities with a series of responsibilities, including investigating and prosecuting major food safety incidents, as well as enacting and revising national and local standards for food safety.
