CRI听力: Legal Daily: Government Officials Should Show Their Tolerance to Criticism

2009-03-08来源:和谐英语

It's been reported that before the annual sessions of the NPC and CPPCC, some members of the CPPCC had criticized the work of local governments who, rather than heeding this criticism, chose to harshly oppose these opinions.

The Legal Daily published an article, saying that government officials should show their tolerance to criticism.

The author of the article mentioned that Wu Jianmin, a spokesman for the 11th National Committee of the CPPCC, cited statutes of the CPPCC saying "members have the right to suggest and criticize the work of governments and officials".(www.hXen.com)

The author also argues that CPPCC members are not court judges that need to depend on impartial and full evidence to make a ruling; their criticism is based on their own knowledge and sometimes the limited information released by local governments.

Facing criticism, even though not based on 100 percent correct evidence, officials should be more tolerant and try to explain administrative decisions.

The author suggests that if local governments do have faults, they should candidly admit them, and shoulder their responsibilities. If members misunderstand, officials should try and explain to them where they believe they are wrong.

The author finally suggests that if government officials do not hesitate in simply responding to criticism, be it valid or not, they will retain the support and confidence of the public.
