CRI听力:Shuttle Discovery Docks with Space Station
The American space shuttle 'Discovery' has successfully docked with the international space station, delivering one last set of solar wings.
Flight director Paul Dye stresses the importance of installing the 300-million-dollar segment.
"It's going to give us all sorts of power to do the science that the station was designed for. It's going to really complete that whole truss build-out and reach a point where we're saying that an awful lot of the infrastructure that creates this magnificent science laboratory in space will be complete."
Discovery is also dropping off badly needed equipment for the space station's new water-recycling system, a spare urine processor and iodine flush to kill bacteria.(www.hXen.com)
The shuttle will spend eight days at the space station, and its crew will perform three spacewalks.
'Discovery' and its crew of seven were due to arrive last month. But launch delays kept the shuttle grounded until Sunday. The postponements have resulted in a shortened visit.
