CRI听力:A more professional Peking Opera course
Last year, the Ministry of Education started a pilot program in 10 provinces to introduce Peking Opera to primary and secondary school students.
But an article in Guangming Daily says almost all the pilot schools are facing the same problem — a lack of professionals to teach the courses.
In these schools, music teachers are taking on the job of teaching Peking Opera. Since Peking Opera is not their specialty and they were trained for only a short period of time, music teachers cannot help students really appreciate the art.(www.hXen.com)
Although many schools invited troupe professionals to teach the courses, they could not afford the high costs in the long run.
The writer suggests that local governments set up a special fund to provide long-term training courses to create teachers who are qualified to teach Peking Opera. Retired opera fans could also be mobilized to teach regular courses or give lectures.
