An article on the website of the official Xinhua News Agency says government's should release information on these enterprises in order to ensure the public's right to know.
The writer says excessive pollution not only harms people's health but damages the local environment. Pressure from public opinion will force these polluting factories to clean up their act.
The writer adds that if the names of polluting enterprises are kept confidential, the public may also question the government's credibility.
