CRI听力: A Mexican Tourist in Hong Kong Becomes the First Confirmed H1N1 Case in Asia

Hong Kong authorities quarantined about 300 people at a hotel where the tourist stayed.

The Chinese government has decided to suspend flights from Mexico to Shanghai in east China.

Donald Tsang, Hong Kong Chief Executive said that the Mexican tourist's diagnosis was confirmed by Hong Kong's Health Department and the University of Hong Kong.(www.hXen.com)

"Hong Kong has got its first case of human infections of influenza A, a person who the day before yesterday flew from Mexico to Hong Kong via Shanghai on China Eastern Airlines flight MU 505, arriving in Hong Kong yesterday at around 1pm."

The 25-year-old man was isolated at a hospital and in a stable condition on Friday.

Officials also began the task of tracking down people whom the patient came into contact with on his journey to Hong Kong.

Also on Friday, the first case of a person contracting the influenza A within the UK was confirmed.

24 year-old Graeme Pacitti tested positive for the virus after being in contact with a couple who returned from honeymoon in Mexico.

In the United States, President Barack Obama said it was not clear that Influenza A was any worse than "ordinary flus" but said the government was preparing in case it comes back in a more virulent form.

"Overall, I'm very pleased with the progress that we've made. I think that those who have been on top of this have done an extraordinary job. I'm optimistic that we're going to be able to manage this effectively, but we still have more work to do and I'm glad I've got such a great team doing it."

Mexico has shut down all but essential government services and private businesses for a five-day campaign to curb the spread of the virus.

Meanwhile in Israel, a 25-year-old man Tomer Vagim was released from a hospital after recovering from the disease.

The Israeli government ordered travelers returning from Mexico to undergo medical checks at airports or other points of entry.

The WHO on Friday increased its tally of confirmed H1N1 cases around the world to 365.

Officials from the organization said a vaccine for the virus could be available "within a relatively short period of time."
