CRI听力:Daredevils Brave Heights for Cross-River Tightrope Event
Daredevils from around the world braved heights as they tried to walk a tightrope across a Seoul river in South Korea.
It was a part of the two-day World High-Wire Championships.
Each contestant had one hour to complete the walk across the one-kilometer-long high wire stretching over the Han River in South Korea.
Switzerland's Alfred Nock Junior won the first place in fastest-crossing event.
"Let's say when I walk without pole, feels greater than with pole. You have to think more, you have to balance more. It's more, how'd I say, like, I learn more. Like how I make one kilometre without pole also and was really new for me, I never did that before."
He was the only competitor to cross the river without a pole.
Safety nets were only used under sections of the wire stretching over the river banks. A number of competitors ended up in the river below.
It was the third time the championship was held as part of the 'Hi-Seoul Festival', organised by the capital's authorities.(www.hXen.com)
Second place went to a Colombia's contestant. He tried to better his performance by crossing the river on a bicycle but failed.
A Chinese contestant ended up taking third place.
South Korea has a tradition of tightrope walking going back centuries.
