CRI听力: Limited Educational Resources, Only for the Privileged?
A key middle school in China's northwestern Shaanxi province has reportedly enrolled only children whose parents work in the local government.
The move has sparked wide criticism.
School authorities have given an absurd response, attributing the rule to limited educational resources.
A commentary from Beijing Youth Daily says the move is completely against the national principle of educational equality, which is the basis of social equality. (www.hxen.net)
The article blames school authorities's complete disregard for taxpayers' legal rights.
It notes the school cost 120 million yuan or nearly 20 million US dollars of taxpayers' money.
A senior local education official is quoted as saying they are trying to rule out such unreasonable privileges.
But the commentary says his soft tone is unconvincing, because his kid is also in the enrolling list.
The paper calls for impartiality of education for all children.
It notes the twisted situation in the area must be reversed.
