CRI听力: Women-only compartment is not the best solution to sexual harassment
The Beijing News recently reported that the Beijing Metro is considering setting up women-only compartments on subway lines 1 and 2.
The move aims to contain sexual harassment on the subway, especially during rush hours.
A commentary from Xinhua.com says the creation of women-only compartments is a good solution to the problem.
It says that sexual harassment has been around for a long time and there is simply no silver bullet to this thorny issue. (www.hXen.com)
The article says the law on the Protection of Rights and Interests of Women offers good protection for women by barring sexual harassment and strengthening precautionary measures at workplaces.
But it is simply not enough to deter the offenders by a new law which still needs more time for further improvement on some details.
The article says setting up women-only compartment is a good alternative when anti-harassment laws are gradually being improved.
