The statement was made by deputy Director General of the Fair, Wang Zhiping on a Sunday promotion conference in the Israeli city of Tel-Aviv. He said that China's need for high technology means great opportunities for countries like Israel. (www.hXen.com)

"Along with the economic development of China, we need to further increase trading activities with the rest of the world. We all know that China's trade surplus has been high for a long time, but that's not what we pursue and we have no intention to keep the big volume of surplus."

Since 2007, the export-oriented fair initiated to open an area for import in the exhibition hall. The organizer said they had received positive feedbacks from worldwide participants towards the import section. Wang Zhiping told CRI that as long as they attract enough exporters worldwide, the half-a-century old fair will initiate an independent import fair sometime next year, or no later than the year after.

Wang Zhiping added that the Canton Fair hopes to attract companies in Israel, a world leader in hi-tech in fields including home-land security, energy-saving, environment protection and so on.
David Arzi, Chairman of the Board of the Export and International Cooperation Institute of Israel speaks highly of the purpose to boost bilateral trade.

"I think the potential business between China and Israel is almost unlimited, because the innovation in Israel, which is the leader of the world. With the potential opportunities in China, it is a great combination to create a great bilateral trade between the two countries."

At the last session this April, more than 1300 Israeli buyers attended the Fair and business deals reached 200 million US dollars, an increase of nearly 20% over the previous session. Though it counts only 1 percent of the total volume of trade deals reached at the Fair, it's viewed as an extraordinary significance amid the global financial crisis.

The 106th session of the Canton Fair will be held this October in the southern metropolis of Guangdong.
