CRI听力: China's summer box office sizzles
China's movie industry is feeling the summer heat at the box office. Ticket sales are expected to pass 1.5 billion yuan, a 50 percent increase over last year. Our reporter Wang Ling has more.
Reporter: Moviegoers in China have been busy this summer as nearly 40 new movies both domestic and imported compete for a share of the hot summer market.
"I've been to the cinema and watched some eight new movies."
"I guess about three or four movies for me a month."
"We have more choices and the movie marketing is good."
Jiang Wei is head of the Beijing-based Broadway Cinema circuit.
"We have noticed that many people chose to see more than one movie in theaters this season. For some moviegoers, it can be more than four times that they came to the cinema to watch movies over the last two months."(www.hXen.com)
Accordingly, total box office revenue in China has climbed remarkably high. Weng Li, spokesman for the China Film Group Corporation, says this summer has been a fruitful season for the country's movie industry.
"We expect the box office revenue will exceed 1.5 billion yuan for this summer season. It is about 50 percent more than what we achieved the same period last year."
Industry insiders expect the heat of China's summer movie season to continue and say it will help increase the profit margins for moviemakers during the traditional holiday movie season.
