Reporter:
At the opening ceremony of the China-Peru economic and trade cooperation forum in Peru's capital city, Lima, Jia Qinglin recalls the deep friendship between the two countries.

"Peru is the first stop of my trip to Latin America. When we stepped on this wonderful land, my colleagues and I strongly felt Peruvian people's enthusiasm and deep friendship, which are based on mutual understanding and formed in the past decades."(www.hXen.com)

Jia Qinglin says that the China-Peru relations have entered a new phase of development when the two states established a strategic partnership in 2008.

Economic and trade cooperation is an important part of the China-Peru strategic partnership. According to China's official statistics, trade volume between the two countries has increased from 19 million US dollars in 1971, to 7.5 billion dollars in 2008, which makes Peru an important trade partner of China in Latin America. Meanwhile, China is Peru's second largest trade partner of export market.

Also at the ceremony, Jia Qinglin highlights the significance of the China-Peru Free Trade Agreement signed in April, 2009.

He says the China-Peru agreement is the first FTA package China has signed with a Latin American country, which is a milestone of the development of bilateral relations between China and Peru.

According to the agreement, China and Peru will impose zero-tariff on more than 90 percent of cargo trade.

Jia Qinglin attaches great importance to the FTA and says it will bring new opportunities of trade cooperation for both sides.

"Both countries should make good use of FTA to promote the Trade and Investment Liberalization and Facilitation. The Chinese government will provide favorable policies to support those enterprises with ability and reputation to invest in Peru, and vice versa."

Jia Qinglin says though the world is gradually recovering from the global economic crisis, more efforts should still be done to maintain the positive trend.

In this way, Jia Qinglin says China would like to work with international community to tackle with the financial crisis and contribute to the recovery of the world economy.
