An exhibition has opened in Beijing to highlight Macao's achievements over the past decade. The exhibition is part of the celebration to mark the 10th anniversary of Macao's return to China and the founding of the Macao Special Administrative Region. Zheng Chenguang has the details.
The 10th anniversary exhibition is being held at the Capital Museum in downtown Beijing. Occupying an exhibiting area of 14 hundred square meters, the exhibition is a review of Macao's achievements through pictures, videos and models. (www.hXen.com)
Officials from the central government and Macao Special Administrative Region have both attended the opening ceremony.
Edmund Ho Hau Wah, outgoing chief executive of Macao SAR, says the exhibition will go on a tour around the Chinese mainland and then head back to Macao.
"We will bring blessings from compatriots around the mainland back to Macao. This tour-exhibition will be the best remembrance of Macao's achievements during the past decade."
Liao Hui, Director of Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, says he is looking forward to a better future for Macao.
"After a couple of days, the Macao Special Administrative Region will turn a new page. We hope Macao will become more prosperous and harmonious with joint efforts of the Macao people under the leadership of the new Chief Executive Chui Sai On."
Chui Sai On will begin his five year term as Chief Executive of Macao SAR from December. 20th. He won a third-term chief executive election for the Macao SAR in July and was appointed by the Central government later.
The People's Republic of China resumed sovereignty over Macao on December 20th 1999 and founded the Macao SAR on the same day.
The region enjoys an average annual GDP growth of 13 percent over the past decade. It still maintains itself as one of the world's most free and open trade and investment markets.
