As part of a series of events to mark the 10th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland, a sculpture park that brings together statues from all Chinese ethnicities has debuted in Macao.

CRI's Zheng Chenguang filed this report from Macao.

The sculpture park of Chinese ethnicities features 56 statues, representing the 56 ethnicities in China and signifying the unity and solidarity of the Chinese nation.

Fifty-six renowned sculptors from different ethnicities on the mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan have all contributed to the park, making it a truly fully-fledged gathering for ethnic sculptures.

Tam Vai Man, a senior official with Macao's Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau, highlighted the significance of the park.

"The park will showcase 56 statues, all masterpieces of famous Chinese sculptors. It is highly artistic in value as they fully display the characteristics unique to each Chinese ethnicity and the unity and harmony among them. It will become another tourist attraction in Macao."

Chen Limin, head of Macao Administration & Law Bureau, says the park is a great gift to Macao as it embraces the 10 year anniversary of the hand-over this Sunday.

"The park has great implications as it was built with efforts made from different parts of China."

Li Fujun is a sculptor who made the Tajik statue in the park.

He says that the Tajik ethnic group, which mainly populates the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, regard the eagle as strong and heroic. That's why he has made a statue of a Tajik girl performing the Eagle dance to represent the Tajik ethnic group.(www.hXen.com)

"The ethnic costumes and accessories are easy to demonstrate. But more importantly, I hope to convey to the viewers the spirit of the ethnic group. An ethnicity that worships eagles is tough and perseverant at heart."

The Sculpture Park of Chinese ethnicities is located on Datan mountain on Macao's Taipa island.

The park also consists of an Exhibition hall designed to showcase Chinese ethnic music, costumes and life styles.
