CRI听力: Bao Chunlai Fails to Reach Final at All England Open
World No. 6 badminton player Bao Chunlai of China has failed to reach the men's singles final at the All England Open. He was defeated by Kenichi Tago of Japan 21-18, 20-22, 18-21. Our correspondent Tu Yun has more.
Bao Chunlai had a fairly good start against Tago. But in the second set, things turned around at match point.
"I didn't concentrate fully when playing some key points. I think I could have done better."
Bao's loss means Tago is the first Japanese to reach the final of the All England Open since 1967. Tago will play world No. 1 Chong Wei Lee of Malaysia on Sunday.
In men's doubles, world No. 4 Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen of Denmark beat Guo Zhendong and Xu Chen of China, 21-16, 21-16. The Danish pair just knocked out another Chinese pair, Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng, a day ago. Here is Boe.
"I wouldn't say it was easier. We had never beaten Fu and Cai, so we of course knew that especially that match would be extremely difficult. But after we overcame them, we knew that today's match will be just as difficult 'cause Guo and Xu Chen have played a very good tournament and had a very impressive beat against the Koreans yesterday. So we knew it would be very, very difficult, but luckily we succeeded with the things we planned and won in the end."
Boe and Mogensen will face compatriots Lars Paaske and Jonas Rasmussen in the final.
In women's singles, defending champion Wang Yihan of China will play Tine Rasmussen of Denmark in the final.
Wang says she'll try her best.
"I met her in the final last year. And this year we'll play against each other again. She's in good form, and I'm getting better and better."
Wang defeated Rasmussen in three sets last year here in Birmingham. (www.hXen.com)
"Of course, I'm ready to give a good fight in the final. Yeah, she's world No 1, the top-seeded in this tournament. She has all the pressure, and I'll just go in and enjoy."
In women's doubles, gold is guaranteed for China as world No. 1 Du Jing and Yu Yang will meet compatriots Cheng Shu and Zhao Yunlei in the final.
In mixed doubles, the newly formed pair Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei will play world No. 2 Nova Widianto and Liliyana Natsir of Indonesia.
