The three-day World Economic Forum on Africa, with the theme of "Rethinking Africa's Growth Strategy," concluded on Friday in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Participants agreed on the importance of unlocking the development potential of the least developed continent in the world. Africa's quicker than expected economic recovery after the financial crisis is cause for optimism. CRI correspondent Wei Tong talked to Donald Kaberua, president of the African Development Bank in Dar es Salaam, who analyzed how Africa has achieved resilience and a fast pace of economic recovery.
I have learned that AfDB has mapped out a 1.5billion USD Emergency Liquidity Facility (ELF) as part of a global response to the financial crisis. (Could you please introduce this to us?)
How do you see the ongoing Shanghai World Expo, which is held for the first time in the developing world can boost Africa's economic links with China and other parts of the world? As we know, almost all African nations are participating in the expo.
How do you think the upcoming FIFA World Cup in South Africa, the first of its kind ever held on the African continent can boost the Africa's economy and attract more investment to the continent?
Could you please estimate the growth rate for Africa's economy this year?
That was Donald Kaberuka, president of the African Development Bank (AfDB) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
