China is rich with culture and is keen to show the world what is on offer. And what better to show what cultural richness is here than, at the four day China Excellent Stage Performance Fair in Guangzhou, the largest of its kind with over 400 exhibits and performances.
The fair is a bridge between performers, managers and artists from home and abroad. Zhang Ru went along to Guangzhou to find out more.
Cao Xiaoning, executive Chairman of China Heaven Creation International Performing Arts Company says the fair serves as a good channel for his company to promote its cultural products.
"The fair is a good platform to let more people know about our company and to help us promote ourselves. It's a hard task for China's culture industry to go abroad. So we have to catch every opportunity."
Foreign dealers from the United States, Britain and Germany have all booked Chinese stage shows.
Tony Stimac is Artistic Director,Tony Stimac from Britain's Musical Theatre Works International Company has collaborated with one Chinese company to stage the musical "Butterfly".
"Musicals are an art that the west has created and is very good at doing it. 'Butterfly' is the first Broadway-style Chinese musical. But it needs more adaptation. So first we are going to do some work on the lyrics and some work on the music to make it a little bit more understandable for western audience. "
"Butterfly" is a contemporary interpretation of China's time-honored romance considered to be the Chinese "Romeo and Juliet."
It will be staged in Spain, Italy and Germany in 2011 and the United States in 2012.
For CRI, I'm Zhang Ru in Guangzhou.
