CRI听力: Siemens Bring Green Technology to Shanghai Expo
The Shanghai expo provides a huge platform not only for countries around the world, but also of course for companies that are contributing to build a "low carbon" society.
There are many companies who have built their own pavilion to showcase their latest technology and there are others who have assisted many pavilions to be environmentallly friendly. One such company is Siemens, the German industrial giant who have utilised their technology to support the"low carbon" Expo.
He Fei has the details.
Standing in the center is The "China Red" illuminating the China Pavilion , attracting many visitors to capture the image on camera.
Surprisingly, this huge lighting project save 70 percent more energy than conventional metal halide floodlights.
Wang Weiguo, the vice president of Siemens, explains the technology the company use to help it save more energy.
"In order to stage pavilion's traditional Chinese features at night, OSRAM relies on over 23,000 LEDs, which emit their light over a distance of 66 metres to ensure color accuracy of China Red at night. The solutions OSRAM provided for the pavilion save 70% more energy than conventional metal halide floodlights. With an operating life of 50,000 hours."
Since the first London Expo in 1851, Siemens has taken part in 17 World Expositions during the period of 159 years.
This year, the company is committed to helping China to realize the first "green" and "low-carbon" World Expo in Shanghai.
Wang Weiguo says Siemens also contribute to other on-site and off-site projects for Shanghai Expo.
"Siemens has been involved in more than 40 major projects at Expo Site and a number of major city infrastructure projects in Shanghai to enable a "green Expo". Around 90% of the order volume is for environmental technology."
He also believes the post-expo economy brings huge green business opportunities.
"The shared vision, "Better City, Better Life", will not be an end when the Expo 2010 closes in October 2010. It is the long-term commitment of the Expo participants and will continue to bring green business opportunities to the city and companies in a long run."
Wu Libo, Deputy Director with Center for Economics & Strategy Studies of Fudan University, says the Shanghai Expo provide a platform for companies to develop green technology in China.
"We can use such kind of platform to explore the market and try to abstract the attention from the final consumption side. So I think it is good opportunities for the firms."
Siemens is just one of the many companies that provide all the green technologies to the Expo, aiming to occupy the huge future green-energy market in China.
