CRI听力:Live Call-in with Iruthisham Adam on UN Climate Talks in Tianjin

2010-10-09来源:和谐英语

UN Climate change talks are under way in the port city of Tianjin, where disagreements have been arising between developed and developing nations.

Environmentalists have been criticizing big developing nations for blocking plans for efficiency standards on shipping.

But China's delegate Wang Hongwei from the Transport Department says he could not support the plan because it imposes the same standards on rich and poor countries alike—contrary to the spirit of the UN climate negotiations.

The talks in Tianjin are meant to lay the groundwork for the main Climate Change conference to take place in Mexico later this year.

But the Tianjin meeting comes to an end this weekend, and there is still no clear international consensus on a climate deal—so, is there any hope of achieving a binding climate change accord this year?

Joining me now is Iruthisham Adam, the Maldives' Ambassador to UN office in Geneva. She is also leading the Maldives delegation at the Tianjin talks.
