CRI听力:Guangzhou Ready for 16th Asian Games
Less than a month before the start of the 16th Asian Games, host city Guangzhou says it's ready for the event as all sports venues have been completed.
Speaking at a press briefing in Guangzhou, organizers say they will do all they can to ensure success at the upcoming event.
CRI's Zheng Chenguang reports.
Wan Qingliang, deputy president of the Guangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee, says the host city has finished all construction needed for the event.
"Among the 70 sports venues, 12 are brand new. The rest have either been expanded or renovated. Moreover, we have built an Asian Games Town, which accommodates non-sports venues, including the athletes' village, a major media center and the technical officials' village."
According to the organizing committee, workers are now busy fine-tuning the venues according to feedback gathered from 47 test competitions.
All the venues have now passed functionality tests and athletes will be able to train in the venues starting November 5. The venues will also undergo three rounds of practice operations before the games open. Based on the test results, organizers will draft various emergency-response plans to ensure smooth operation during the event.
Wan Qingliang adds that Guangzhou will also provide good logistical support for participants of the games.
"During the Asian Games, we will arrange 6, 000 registered vehicles to serve the event. They will be entitled to use the exclusive traffic lanes designated at airports, the Asian Town, sports venues and some hotels."
More than 10, 000 athletes from 45 Asian countries and regions will compete in the 15-day event. The Asian Para Games will start on December 12.
