CRI听力:Talks on the Purpose of the World Environment Day
Yesterday, June 5th, saw Pittsburgh host this years World Environment Day.
The day was originally launched by the UN in 1972 following the first United Nations Conference on Human Environment.
The day is celebrated on June 5th every year, and his hosted by a different city with a different theme and is commemorated with an international exposition in the host city. 2011 see's Pittsburgh in the US host the day with the theme 'Forests-Nature At Your Service'.
Major cities in China have also taken the opportunity to stimulate awareness of the environment as well as enhance political attention and public action.
For more now on the purpose of the day, how it is being marked, and what it hopes to achieve, Rebecca Hume earlier spoke with Dr Yang Fuqiang, Senior Advisor on Climate and Energy of Natural Resources Defense Council or NRDC, a US-based environmental group.
