CRI听力:Sharapova, Kvitova to Battle for the Wimbledon Title

2011-07-03来源:和谐英语

Maria Sharapova has now made it back the Wimbledon final for the first time since she claimed the title in 2004. The fifth seeded Russian has powered through German wildcard Sebine Lisicki 6-4, 6-2.

She's now set to battle 8th-seeded Czech Petra Kvitova for the Wimbledon title. Our London correspondent Tu Yun reports.

Sharapova has been regarded as one of the favorite of the tournament.

However, her advance to the final wasn't a cake-walk, despite it being Lisiki's first time ever to reach the semi-final of a grand slam.

Lisiki did manage to break her serve once in the first set thanks to a double-fault.

In fact, Sharapova committed 13 doubled-faults in the match, compared to just 4 from Lisicki.

However, the Russian star managed to outmatch Lisiki with her strong forehand and a better return of serve.

"It's amazing to be back in the final of Wimbledon. It has been a while. I have really realistic expectations in terms of, you know, I haven't gone through the fourth round in a few years. So to be in the final again is a great achievement for me. But I still feel I have more to do."

Sharapova will now face Petra Kvitova on Center Court on Saturday.

The Czech star needed three sets to down Belarusian Victoria Azarenka 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 to reach her first Grand Slam final.

Kvitova says she may have an advantage against Sharapova.

"Left handed, I can say. She's playing so hard and she has a big serve, but she doesn't go on the net."

In women's doubles action, Chinese pair Zheng Jie and Peng Shuai have been bounced in the quarterfinals by 2nd-seeded Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik 6-2, 6-7, 6-4.
